Sage's Stray Thoughts Episode 14: No No Power Rangers

Image
Earlier this week Adi Shankar's long-awaited "Power/Rangers" fan film came out, starring Katee Sackhoff and James Van Der Beek along with a handful of other known actors.  The film is set after the Machine Empire from Power Rangers Zeo attack the Earth, and sees a captured Kimberly (Sackhoff) learn what happened to the other Rangers after they lost the war. Here's a look at the film below:

And we back, and we back.... Batgirl Babs Tarr's art is awesome; she's great at everything from layouts to character expressions.  Look at Dinah in the third panel--that's a "fuck that was close" look if I've ever seen one. Anyway, one of Barbara's key characteristics has always been her photographic, or eidetic, memory.  It's one of those things that made her unique but also made sense, given that she was for quite some time the information center of the entire DC superhero network.  That was really cool, and a standout element that nobody else has, right?  Well...

All-New X-Men Are you kidding me?  Didn't this whole thing start because the Present Hank McCoy was going to "fix everything"?  Since then it's just been one long-ass list of "This is why I hate time travel" cliches strung together in an attempt to prove that time travel fixes nothing , which is something that any X-Men should know if they live through their first year.   Now "Past Hank" has an idea?  You know, for all the Scott Summers is evil insults/jokes, it sure seems like the biggest problem the X-Men has right now is their mad scientist friend.

Angela: Asgard's Assassin The Guardians of the Galaxy film confirmed to be exist as a biopic in the Marvel U. Anyway, despite Angela's new costume, this book gets harder to read with every issue.  First she's a member of a race that's so assholish even Odin was like "fuck off" and shifted them into their own reality.   Now she's out in the middle of space demanding "friends" to give up their living quarters.   What happened to manners?   For that matter, what happened to "nothing for nothing", that horrible code by which she's supposed to live her life?

Amazing X-Men I know Bobby sounds like a jerk here, but he's actually being dangerously genre-savvy.  It's actually gotten sad that everyone is resistant to telepathy.  There are times when it makes sense--Juggernaut, Magneto--but then other times its so distressingly common that you wonder why they even act like telepaths are relevant at all.

All-New X-Factor   I'm pretty sure Danger's entire character arc during this run was about sex.  It'd be creepy if she were a normal female, but since she's an AI it raises all sorts of interesting questions that I'm actually bummed PAD won't get a chance to answer for us.

Get it?  Get it?   I'm sure it'll have some other meaning to detract from that, but right now that's all I can see when I look at it.
