Captain Atom has all the power in the world, but no hope of saving himself. Charged by nuclear energy, possessing vast molecular powers, he has the potential to be a god among men – a hero without limits. But the question is this: Will he lose himself in the process? Another title I'm not wholly sure about. The ground being tread from this spoiler here is very, very well-tread, so J.T. Krul needs to be a genius to make it work. I mean, a man with the potential to be a god? DC, Jim Shooter called from the 90's--he said he already did that with red Cyclops.

Still, Captain Atom's a decent character and Freddie Williams Jr. puts us back to "Artists That Are Beyond Awesome" in terms of quality. It can get four months and some interviews too.

I Read A Ton Of Superman Comics And Wound Up Angry At Man of Steel

I've always had the opinion that Man of Steel is a fine movie.  Occasionally my stance is it's a great Dragon Ball Z film, and a mediocre at best Superman film.  It never really made me angry, because there ARE some good parts to it. But last night I read Superman: Birthright and Superman: Secret Origin, and the more I read of each one, the more I realize that I only think Man of Steel is "fine" when viewed in a vacuum.  When specifically compared to Mark Waid (or even Geoff Johns') comics, Man of Steel goes from "yeah, whatever" to embarrassing.  How could anyone have looked at that film and thought it could be a decent representation of Superman?    The best parts of it are the beginning where they show Kryptonian society, and the fight scenes (like I said, DBZ).   It's boring-ass muted colors and a Superman film that's trying so hard to get across a bunch of lazy metaphors a...

Spring Anime 2009 Picks

Spring. Meh. We're a few short weeks from things warming up again. Also a few short weeks away from the grass growing green again, and my lawn is freaking huge. Still, on the plus side, there's new anime. This here's the big season, so this list is likely to be very long. In other words, settle in. Disclaimer: I'm not another douchebag cynic anime fan. If an anime can manage to merge a good storyline and lots of panty shots almost seamlessly, more power to them, and I ain't holding it against them. (This just might be because I lack the large, ceramic, EVA-01-shaped model up my ass that most anime bloggers seem to have that makes them so stuck up.) In other words? Astro City As usual, Kurt Busiek's Astro City is creatively solid--following a superhero who's made his home on an alien planet, and has to learn to accept when it's time to hand the job over to the next generation.  It's almost the opposite of what happened with Crackerjack and Quarrel.  That said: I've been a denizen of the interwebs for nearly two decades now, and this still might be a strong contender for grossest sexual advance ever.
