Here's what we're going to do: I'm going to try as hard as I can not to make this post a bunch of exclamation points, and you're not going to get upset when I inevitably fail, alright?  Let's go, team!

Anime Picks: Battle Girl High School

I think we got a hit.

Anime Picks: Hina Logi: From Luck and Logic

Image
A few quick and dirty reviews of my picks of the new season, including whether or not I'm still watching them after their first episodes. We're going to start off with the show that got a head start on the summer season and premiered at launch, Hina Logi: From Luck & Logic Hina Logi is supposed to be a spin-off to the original Luck and Logic series, a fantasy-based series that had battles through card games.  I'd meant to get into the original, I decided I'd just jump straight into the sequel and if it appealed, I could always go back and watch the original. Too bad Hina Logi was almost criminally boring.  I'm not against Cute Girls Doing Cute Things, but they didn't really do much at all this episode.  The main character is Princess Liones, who ran away from her father (with the approval of her mother) to go to a private school where she could train her abilities and become a Logicalist, one of many who use their special abilities to protect the wor...

2017 Summer Anime Preview

Image
Crap, it's July already?   Yeah, I haven't even finished most of the Spring series.  Still, technically the "first" summer series already started, and even not technically as of tomorrow the summer anime season begins in full, so before that happens here's my picks for the season.   Annoyingly I likely won't finish most of these either. Note : I get all my summaries and information from LiveChart .  Be sure to check them out, they do an excellent job of keeping up with all the anime announcements, and allow you to decide mark whether you're interested or skipping shows from a particular season.  When you skip, the show vanishes from the chart, which I always think is a hilarious but not mean-spirited way of saying "fuck you" to a show you don't like.  Anyway, on with the article!

Fall Anime 2011 Picks

Image
Chart. Some tool posted on one of these a while back and asked why I cut stuff out of it. I didn't on that one, I didn't on this one. And, if it's not OBVIOUS, this isn't my chart. While I can read some Japanese (I'm in J3 now), I can't read much kanji. And if I could, this isn't something I would devote my time to create. That out of the way... Guilty Crown Summary: The story takes place in Tokyo in 2039. After the outbreak of the unidentified virus "Lost Christmas" in 2029, Japan has been under the control of a multinational organization called GHQ. Ouma Shu is a 17-year-old boy who has a psychic power in his right hand. He can use the power "Ability of King" to extract tools or weapons from his friends. He has been avoiding making trouble for others but his life changes when he meets a girl named Yuzuriha Inori, a member of a resistance guerrilla group called "Undertaker", whose members pilot mecha weapons to figh...

Lack of Summer 2011 Anime Picks

Image
So, there's no chart up for the first time in ages. Well, here's the chart for the season: The reason I was in no hurry to post this was, quite simply, there's NOTHING on it for me. I'll be looking at Blade, but X-Men was the only Marvel Anime I cared about after Iron Man became crap. Baka to Test II is the only series I REALLY want to watch. And that's it. Meh. I'm watching more drama than I am anime this season. Amazing.

Winter Anime 2011 Picks

Image
*So, it's about that time again. January is like a few weeks away, so before I'm swamped with schoolwork, I may as well pick out the anime of interest coming out this Winter. Wolverine What It Is: Wolverine is the second part of the Marvel Anime series, where Marvel's most popular characters are reinterpreted for a Japanese audience. This one centers around Wolverine during one of his trips to Japan. Why I'm Interested: 'Cause it's a Marvel anime, mainly. Wolverine isn't exactly one of my favorite characters. But, each series appears to lead into one another, so there you go. Infinite Stratos What It's About: Japan engineered an armed powered exoskeleton "Infinite Stratos" (IS) and it became the mainstream of weapons. Since only women can operate IS, women dominate the society over men. Orimura Ichika is a 15 year old boy and accidentally touches an IS placed in the IS pilot training school. He is found to be the only man who can operate...

Fall Anime 2010 Picks

Image
So it's that time of year again: Fall. Finally. For one, I'm REALLY tired of being hot all the freaking time. Being covered in sweat does not generally inspire one to do their best, academically. (On the other hand, I work rather well when I'm just slightly cold. I may be part penguin.) Anyways, we're only a few weeks away from a new anime season. So here's that famous chart that tells us what shows we'll be worshipping, mocking, and being indifferent to for the next three months: For my picks.... Iron Man : What Is It : Marvel and Madhouse have teamed up to bring four of Marvel's biggest heroes to a Japanese audience. Why I'm Interested : There's an overly long post on this blog somewhere detailing my dislike of the other two Iron Man cartoons, and I wrote it because Iron Man's my favorite Marvel superhero ever--my second favorite superhero period. An Iron Man anime is my fanboy dream. I'd prefer a more direct adaptation--my favori...

Summer Anime Picks 2010

Image
Okay, so I'm a little late with this, but the subs for most series aren't out yet, so no worries. Aside from Shin Koihime Musou, I never cared to watch the Spring series , but I've got hopes for summer! So, here we go! Legend of the Legendary Heroes What It's About: Ryner Lute is a lazy student of Roland Empire Royal Magician's school. One day, Roland Empire goes to war against a neighboring country Estaboole, and he lost his classmates in the battle. After the war, Lute sets out for a journey to search the relics of a "Legendary Hero" at Emperor Sion Astal's command. And he finds out that a deadly curse is spreading through the continent. (MAL) Why I'm Interested: The trailer was bad-ass, and that title is AWESOME. Also, as I understand it, the original novel is an exceptionally long epic fantasy series, which fleshes out its world and THEN tells its true story. Now, I just have to hope they craft a decent world *and* the series has ti...

Spring Anime Picks 2010

Image
Just two years ago, my Spring choices were near 20--which was around half of what was being offered. Not bad, I thought. This year? *sighs* First off, let's have a look at the chart: Heroman What It's About: Heroman is the story of a kid named Joey who lives on the west coast of the United States. He unearths a toy robot and discovers it has the ability to become "Hero Man", a giant robot he pilots to fight against aliens and other threats. Why I'm Interested: I'm not sure I am, but I intend to give the first episode a try. We've been lacking in giant robot stories lately, though so I figured why not. Also, its created by Stan Lee, if that means anything to anyone else. But if its a lot like Eureka 7...I'm Ghost Like Swayze. Shin Koihime Musou: ~ Otome Tairan ~ What It's About: The third season of the loli/bishoujo version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Shin Koihime Musou continues our story of following Kannu-tachi on their quest to....

2010 Anime...Sanjou!

Image
Wow. Its all late and everything, and here I am typing this update. I should be sleeping, but I noticed other sites were actually getting their Anime Picks things up first, and that's just embarrassing since normally as soon as Chartfag gets his chart up I'm working on the list. You all will really have to excuse me. The updates have slowed down since I moved, and I apologize. I've been getting used to my new place and its taking some time to mesh the old routines with the new. Anyway. Winter 2010...first, the chart. You can find the chart here . Its kinda light on series. ...Even lighter on watchable series. Seikon no Quasar What It's About: The St. Mikhailov Academy student Oribe Mafuyu comes across a mysterious silver haired boy. He is called a Qwsaer, a being that draws power from Soma and is able to manipulate a specific element. And now, in the 21st century, the mystery revolving around an Icon turns the academy into the battlegrounds for the fight between ...

New Anime Season!

Image
Here we are again. Its been awhile since I've done one of these, or it seems like its been awhile. Troubles with my connection have been making me pull back on anime a bit. Hopefully that won't last for much longer. As always, the giant chart is posted above. (Click it to get the full image.) Or go here . (More HQ version.) I actually haven't read it yet, so this will be a new experience for all of us! Queen's Blade: Heir to the Throne Brief Summary: The super fanservice-y show from this Spring returns with a sequel! (...Scraping the bottom of the barrel, aren't we?) You know the deal: There's a competition to decide the next Queen, where the winner will be allowed to rule, while the contestants need only be older than 12. They can be from any race, or country. Why I'm Interested: Well...why not? The first one, as I understand it, was full of complete insanity, so the second should be the same, if not crank it up a notch. After all at this poi...

Summer Anime 2009 Picks

Image
There's the list for this season. I'm a little late, since I usually have my picks out several weeks prior to any premieres, but as it is I believe a few of these are already out. Oh well. Click the image to see the series and their descriptions. For those at home paying attention, Summer--much like Winter--are the "off" seasons. Most shows tend to run for 26 or 52 episodes, which means the major seasons are always Spring and Fall. Still, if you look carefully, you can find interesting stuff anyway--which is why I'm posting this! Weiss Survive Why I'm Interested: I'm a sucker for card games, I admit it. Weiss Survive is quite the interesting program, though I've yet to watch it. Its apparently a parody of card game anime (which can defnitely be warranted sometimes, even if I do like them), that's sixteen eps total, and only two and a half minutes long . How Long Am I Keeping It Around: Eh...at 2 minutes, 30 seconds, for good. Basically I ...

Spring Anime 2009 Picks

Image
Spring. Meh. We're a few short weeks from things warming up again. Also a few short weeks away from the grass growing green again, and my lawn is freaking huge. Still, on the plus side, there's new anime. This here's the big season, so this list is likely to be very long. In other words, settle in. Disclaimer: I'm not another douchebag cynic anime fan. If an anime can manage to merge a good storyline and lots of panty shots almost seamlessly, more power to them, and I ain't holding it against them. (This just might be because I lack the large, ceramic, EVA-01-shaped model up my ass that most anime bloggers seem to have that makes them so stuck up.) In other words? I'm more likely to have Queen's Blade on my list, rather than RAINBOW Nisha. Anyhow, on with the show! But first off, let's see what we're working with. Apologies for the huge image. But its good quality, so why not? Anyways. Full Metal Alchemist Synopsis: Long-awaited and rumored seco...
