Injustice Full Roster: Final Thoughts

So, courtesy of a Warner Bros. employee Twitter page (and some quick image saving since the guy seems to have deleted it), we now have a picture of the full roster of Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Personally, I wonder just how much influence DC/Warner Bros. had on the roster of this, as of the 24 characters offered, only two of them are remotely obscure.  The rest have appeared in multiple television series from the past few decades, some even in movies or currently in live-action series, and thus are pretty big name characters.  Overall, I'm okay with the selection, but definitely not the number.

Now there are a lot of fighting game hardcore fans that are obsessed with the idea of balance, and I agree with that...at least until the concept starts to interfere with the game's options.   There don't seem to be too many concerns or problems with breaking the balance when it comes to games like Dragon Ball Z fighters or the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series; by my count the last Ultimate Ninja Storm game had nearly 70 characters.   Now I'm not saying Injustice needs that many (because frankly I don't see how you could get to that number without including stuff like the Legion of Super-Heroes), but why they couldn't seem to make it to 40 or 50 is beyond me.  For instance:

Heroes: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman, Hawkgirl, Black Canary, Captain Marvel, Green Arrow, Nightwing, Cyborg, Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, Power Girl, Black Canary, Booster Gold, Dr. Fate, Orion, Mister Miracle, Big Barda.

Villains: Joker, Lex Luthor, Cheetah, Sinestro, Professor Zoom, Harley Quinn, Black Manta, Solomon Grundy, Lady Shiva, Black Adam, Deathstroke, Dr. Light, Trigon, Ares, Killer Frost, Doomsday, Steppenwolf, Sportsmaster, Bane, Wotan, Count Vertigo, Lobo.

That's a roster of roughly 46 characters, 23 heroes and 23 villains.  Many of which are actually still not all that obscure, but expands the available characters and lore that you're using out to about twice as large as it was. And I didn't even delve all that heavily into things like the Legion of Super-Heroes or the Justice Society or the Suicide Squad.  (There should be a sequel, after all.)

Still, all is not lost.  We are at 24 characters presently, and Nether Realms usually hides a couple characters from the roster you have at the beginning of the game.  Plus there's another 4 characters to be added through DLC, and its entirely possible the first four characters won't be all there is.  For now though, I guess we have to just wait and see, and let them know that we would like to see more characters join the cast.
